The goals
What success looked like.
- Replace a paper-and-spreadsheet Certificate of Compliance process with one auditable system
- Cover the whole lifecycle — job submission, independent review and certificate issuance — in one place
- Build the commercial layer most compliance tools ignore: subscriptions, invoicing and worker payouts
- Give independent tradespeople a way to run their own business under a compliance framework
Inside the build
A look at what we built.

The brief
01
What they came to us with.
Australian trades compliance runs on Certificates of Compliance — the paperwork that proves regulated plumbing and gas work was done correctly. CoC me set out to replace a paper-and-spreadsheet process with a single platform covering the whole lifecycle: the tradesperson on site, the reviewer who signs the work off, and the business running it — plus the commercial layer most compliance tools ignore: subscriptions, invoicing and paying workers.
Our approach
02
How we thought about it.
We built the system around the real handover between the worker doing the job and the reviewer who has to approve it, then wrapped the commercial operations around that. Six user roles, granular permissions and the job workflow all map to how a trades business actually runs — so the platform behaves like a day-to-day operating system, not just a digital form.
The build
03
What we made.
A custom Laravel platform with role-based access across six roles — worker, reviewer, admin, company owner, staff and super-admin — behind an application-approval and guided onboarding flow (quizzes included) that a worker clears before taking jobs. Workers complete jobs through a guided, multi-step submission — customer details, job details, photos, site visits and documents — built on a dynamic form engine with conditional logic and versioned templates, with recall-and-resubmit and a reviewer Q&A thread. Jobs handle multi-stage projects and rectification chains; reviewers accept, assess and issue certificates with QR verification, while admins run the operation from an analytics dashboard, and a geolocation "new job in radius" matcher (Google Maps) routes work to nearby reviewers. The commercial engine runs just as deep: tiered Stripe subscriptions via Laravel Cashier with per-plan feature gating and free trials; GST- and ABN-compliant invoicing with three tax treatments and PDF output; and an automated worker-remittance module that calculates payouts, itemises deductions from a reusable library and generates remittance-advice PDFs — all wrapped in a configurable email-notification engine with editable per-event templates and full mail logs, plus white-label branding, a knowledge base, support tickets, two-factor authentication and end-to-end activity logging. Alongside the platform we designed and built CoC me’s customer-facing marketing site — the public front end that introduces the framework to plumbers, home and business owners, corporates and regulators.
The outcome
04
Where it landed.
CoC me is live and running the full lifecycle in production for an Australian plumbing and gas business — real jobs moving from submission through compliance review to issued certificates, subscriptions billing automatically, and workers paid through the remittance flow. One auditable system replaces a paper-and-email process, and the architecture — 50+ data models, 100 database migrations and 60+ controllers — is built to grow from a single operator upward.
