The brief

What they came to us with.
Health Translations SA needed a robust, accessible, multilingual platform to centralise translated health resources for South Australia’s culturally and linguistically diverse communities. The platform had to support 40+ languages, work flawlessly on low-bandwidth devices, meet stringent accessibility standards, and be maintainable by a small editorial team. The platform is governed under the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI).

How we thought about it.
We came on as the technical partner for the custom-built Health Translations SA platform. The architecture is content-first with multilingual support baked in from day one — not bolted on later. Every page, every component, every URL is structured to scale across languages without forking the codebase. Accessibility is treated as non-negotiable: WCAG 2.1 AA compliance verified through automated and manual testing.

A custom platform built on a hardened content infrastructure with translation workflows, version control on translated assets, automated build pipelines, and observability across the public-facing site and the editorial backend. Performance is tuned aggressively — the platform serves users on aging devices and unreliable connections, so every kilobyte matters. We provide ongoing engineering, monitoring, and feature work as the platform’s long-term support partner.
